In 2001 Steve travelled to Central Australia and began formulating a model for music based education on remote Indigenous communities. The immediate success of this work encouraged Steve to expand the scope of these programs and in 2006 Music Outback Foundation was born.

As the program grew and iconic events such as the music and arts education festival Mobfest was established, the importance of Music Outback Foundation to the communities it served grew with it.
